![]() ![]() Newer neural network topologies, training techniques or other methods help, but at the end of the day good, sanitized data will get better results.Don’t wait for the AI to pick up on something when you could speed it along. If you know a signal is important to the problem, feed it in directly.Avoid skew (over or under-represented populations) at all costs. The quality of simulation is crucial for the agent to leaning anything.Lots of good data will yield better results.Ever-changing inputs influence both short and long-term planning, and reinforcement learning provides the tools to get the job done.įor any reinforcement learning project to succeed, the same general principles of all data science apply: Game AI agents operate in such dynamic environments that it’s nigh impossible to generate and label such huge amounts of data, let alone make sense of it. ![]() ![]() This is much different than supervised learning, in which huge amounts of labelled data is fed into an ML model and output is compared to with ground truth. Gotta train to get results! Photo by Karsten Winegeart on Unsplash With enough computing power and a well-structured reward scheme, incredible behaviors can emerge. Over time these agents are rewarded and reinforced to induce desired behavior. Reinforcement Learning, or RL for short, is a deep learning technique in which multiple agents perform tasks in competitive environments. The best-known training method for control tasks such as video game AI is Reinforcement Learning. I mean, I created the AI and the AI beat them, it’s like I did it, right? Reinforcement Learning - What is it? Wait, I mean advancing the field of deep learning for the good of humankind (always get those things messed up.) Plus, who wouldn’t want to enter a good ole technological Dark Age with some Abominable AI? Why, would you ask? Well, why would anybody train AI to beat people at games? Probably because it’s fun, and then I get to claim to be better than all of them. In this article, I, a humble Software Engineer and Warhammer fan, begin a new project, training a Warhammer 40k 9th Edition AI. Have you ever wanted to play Warhammer but found setting up a game and playing with other players too taxing? Do you wish you could just play against the AI over and over, honing your skills and trying other strategies? If so, you’re in the right place.
