MPR, as a partner to the Minnesota Integrated Public Alert Warning System, provides the technological infrastructure for Minnesota’s Emergency Alert System (EAS). CPB provides approximately 9% of MPR’s operating revenue each year. CPB receives an annual appropriation from Congress and funds more than 1,000 locally operated public radio and television stations across the country. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting is a private, nonprofit corporation created by Congress in 1967. In an era of media consolidation and corporate ownership, these local stations are becoming an increasingly rare and even more vital source of local news and information for the communities they serve. Each member station serves local listeners with a distinctive combination of national and local programming. A privately supported, nonprofit membership organization, NPR serves more than 900 independently operated, noncommercial public radio stations. NPR is an internationally acclaimed producer and distributor of noncommercial news, talk, and entertainment programming. Minnesota Public Radio broadcasts BBC World Service programming daily, including BBC Newshour every weekday afternoon. American Public Media distributes BBC World Service to public radio stations across the United States. BBC World Service programming reaches over 210 million listeners worldwide. With more journalists in more places than any other broadcaster, BBC World Service is the most comprehensive source for coverage of world events. The BBC World Service provides international news, analysis and information in English and 27 other languages.
